Guide to Tail Butt Plugs

Posted by Jim Jimmy on

The humble butt plug is one of the world’s favourite sex toys. They have a simple use, and only a few butt plugs really deviate from it. The real magic comes from the massive variety of butt plugs available.

These plugs can be different sizes, made of different materials, be different shapes, or even have different textures. Some even have additional parts like a cock cage or a vibrator attached. Many fans will amass a large collection of different butt plugs giving themselves the perfect one for each occasion.

Butt plugs with tails are one of these kinds of plugs. You might not use them every time, but when you do they are sure to bring some extra excitement to your bedroom. Just like any other kind of plug, there are a huge range of tail plugs around, so you can always choose exactly what suits your mood.

Before we get into the specifics though let’s get back to basics…

What is a Butt Plug?

A butt plug is one of the most basic sex toys available. It is quite simply, a plug which is put into your anus. People can wear butt plugs for many different lengths of time. Some choose to only wear them while having sex. Others decide to wear them more long term, keeping them in for several hours or even venturing outside while wearing them.

A standard butt plug consists of three parts: The base, the stem, and the body. The base is the most important part as it serves as the barrier which stops the plug fully entering the body and becoming stuck. All good butt plugs will have good bases which are either flared or T-bar shape. You should never use a plug which doesn’t have a base.

The stem is the part of the plug which your butt will be holding onto once you’ve inserted it. Stems can come in various sizes and thicknesses. Most people will find a longer stem easier to use, but everyone’s butt is different. In terms of thickness, it’s pretty much down to you. Thicker stems will give your anus a little more stretching and can be harder to wear for long periods, so bear that in mind when choosing.

The body of the plug is the part which actually goes inside your anus. These come in a massive variety of styles. There are different lengths, widths, shapes, textures and materials. All of these factors have an effect on how the plug feels when you wear it. It can take some experimentation to find your favourite kind of plug body.

Why Do People Use Butt Plugs?

Now you’ve got an idea of what a butt plug is, you might be wondering why people like to use them. If you’ve made it this far, then you will probably be aware of anal sex. In the simplest form, butt plugs let you feel similar things to anal sex without needing to put a penis or dildo up there.

There’s a lot more to butt plugs than just that though. Due to the many different sizes available, some people like to use butt plugs as an entry to anal sex. You can start with a smaller plug, only a couple of inches long, and wear it for a short amount of time. This gives your anal sphincters time to stretch and also gets you used to the feeling of having something inside your butt. Once you can comfortably insert and wear a small plug, you can move onto a larger version. Eventually you’ll be able to wear plugs that are a similar size to a man’s penis.

The gradual training and growth of the sphincters can help alleviate much of the pain or discomfort people feel when engaging in anal sex. If this is your goal with your butt plugs, there are even training kits you can buy! These usually have four different plugs of graduating sizes for you to work your way through.

If you’ve given anal sex a try before and didn’t really enjoy it, then you might think butt plugs aren’t for you. This couldn’t be further from the truth though! While butt plugs are great practise for anal sex, the things you feel when wearing one can be very different.

One of the most common feelings people describe when wearing a plug is a feeling of fullness. It’s a difficult thing to explain in words, but essentially while you wear your plug you can feel that it’s there. This might seem like an obvious thing to say, but the fullness puts pressure on many different parts inside your body. The pressure can make almost anything you do while you wear your plug feel different, so even wearing one during regular activities like housework can provide a level of pleasure you might not have anticipated.

Pressure is also put on sexual organs in the body. In women, the plug pushes on the back wall of the vagina. This makes the vagina feel much tighter, so your man will love it. He doesn’t get all the pleasure though. Wearing a plug during sex feels a lot like double penetration, as you have something in both the vagina and the anus. If you’ve ever wondered what a threesome might be like or simply like the idea of being filled up from all angles, a plug can let you live this fantasy out without needing a potentially awkward conversation with your partner.

Men don’t have a vagina, and the penis sits outside the body, so what pleasure could they possibly get from wearing a butt plug if they aren’t gay? Firstly, we need to dispel the myth. Enjoying anal pleasure does not make you gay. Many straight men all over the world enjoy wearing butt plugs.

One of the biggest factors in this enjoyment is the prostate. The prostate is a small walnut shaped gland found between a man’s bladder and the inner end of the penis. It’s a difficult gland to reach, and the easiest way to stimulate it is entering through the anus. A butt plug does this perfectly and wearing one to stimulate your prostate while masturbating or having sex can lead to some intensely powerful orgasms.

Prostate stimulation can also help men maintain a healthy prostate. Prostate problems can lead to incontinence or in some cases cancer. While it’s not proven that stimulation helps avoid all of these problems, it’s fairly accepted that it can help, so what have you got to lose?

An often-overlooked part of butt plugs is the benefits they can have on your health. That’s right, using butt plugs can be good for you! The body has a kind of hammock across the bottom, helping to hold all of your important organs in place. This is called the pelvic floor, and pelvic floor muscles can become weakened over time. Regularly holding a butt plug in place can help to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. This counteracts the sagging caused as you age and can help you avoid incontinence problems later in life.

As you can see, there are many, many reasons you should give a butt plug a try!

How to Use a Butt Plug

Using a butt plug might seem like quite a simple and easy process. While it is, there are a few things you should be aware of to avoid any pain or discomfort.

The single most important part of using any butt plug is lubrication. You need tons of the stuff. The anus doesn’t produce any lubrication of its own, so putting anything up there dry is definitely going to hurt. You can also cause damage to your sphincter, anus or rectum by skipping lubrication. This isn’t just a case of discomfort, you can cause abrasions or even tear the skin. The anal lining is much more sensitive than many other parts of the body so it’s extra susceptible to this kind of damage.

Some daredevils might have tried anal activity before using saliva as lubrication and had no problems. While saliva can sometimes be okay as lubricant, it dries out very, very quickly. When you’re using a butt plug you’re most likely going to be leaving it in place for an extended period of time. During wear all the saliva that you used to get it in will dry out so when it comes to taking the plug back out you’ll be doing it dry. This can be just as painful as trying to put something in without lube so it’s best to avoid saliva when it comes to butt plugs and buy a proper lubricant.

Most lubes will fall into one of three categories. These are water-based, oil-based, and silicone-based. All three can be used with butt plugs but some are more suitable than others.

  • Just like saliva, water-based lubricants dry out quite quickly, so you’ll need to reapply them often while using your plug.
  • Silicone lubricants are much longer lasting, but they break down the surface of silicone butt plugs so if your plug is made from this you’ll need something different.
  • Oil-based lubricants are a bit of a middle ground. They last a long time, and don’t react negatively with any butt plugs, so if possible try to go for an oil-based lubricant.

Once you have your lubricant, you need to apply it thoroughly. This isn’t just a little bit on the plug before you put it in. You need lube everywhere. Getting your anus and your plug covered is a good start, but for the best experience you also want to get some lube inside your anus.

It can be difficult to do this with your finger. When you push your finger into the anus much of the lube is pushed aside by the sphincter and never actually makes it into the anus. If you find yourself having trouble getting enough lube inside, you may want to try a lube syringe. These are small syringes that allow you to squirt the lube directly inside the anus and make sure enough is getting inside.

So, everything’s nicely lubricated, all that’s left is to push the plug in, right? For the experienced user this might be the case, but for many the butt might need a little more preparation. The easiest way to do this is to start with a finger.

You don’t need to insert it all the way. Just go up to the first knuckle and rest for a while. At this point you might feel something like a burning sensation. This is fairly normal and should pass shortly as your sphincter becomes more used to being stretched. If it doesn’t pass within around ten minutes you should remove your finger. You may have simply got the angle wrong, but you might have caused some damage or be having an adverse reaction to the lube you chose. If the feeling still won’t subside after removing your finger consult a medical professional.

Once you feel comfortable with the first part of the finger, you can move onto the next knuckle. Again, stop and rest to give your body time to get used to the feeling. When ready push further and you should have your entire finger inside.

Many butt plugs are much wider than a finger, so once you become comfortable with one finger, you may want to repeat the process with two. You can also try gently removing and reinserting your fingers to get the sphincter more used to opening and closing. When you feel comfortable with this you can move onto the plug itself.

The single most important part (aside from lube) of putting in a butt plug is relaxing. When you aren’t relaxed your body (and sphincter) tense up. This can make it difficult to insert your plug. You should never force the plug in as this will cause damage. The entire process should be gentle and slow. If you find yourself tensing up before you start inserting your plug, try a few breathing exercises to relax yourself. Some people even like to light candles or listening to calming music. Whatever works for you.

When you’re nice and relaxed, you can start to insert your plug. You’ll want to rest the tip of the plug against your anus and then gently push it into your body. You don’t need to do the entire thing at once, so any time you feel discomfort stop for a little while and let your body adjust. When ready, push a little deeper. Keep repeating this process until the entire body of the plug is inside. You’ll feel your sphincter close back up in a kind of popping motion and it will grab onto the stem of the plug. This stops it coming back out. If you feel pain at any point during insertion you should remove your plug and take a short rest. If there is any bleeding, consult your doctor.

Hopefully though, you’ll have been able to get your plug all the way in and be comfortably wearing it!

How Long Can You Wear a Butt Plug?

I mentioned earlier that people wear butt plugs for many different amounts of time. One of the most common questions new users have is how long they can wear their plugs for without causing damage to their bodies. There’s a few different problems when it comes to answering this question, so there isn’t really one definite answer.

After the initial few inches of your anus, you no longer have any pain receptors. This means that most of the body parts a butt plug is touching won’t be able to warn you when something is wrong. The only part of your body that will really tell you when you’ve worn your plug for too long is the sphincter. As it grips the plug for an extended period of time, it may begin to rub and chafe. This part of the body is very delicate and having it dry out and chafe can lead to some tearing, ulcers or even bleeding.

With a proper amount of lubrication this shouldn’t really be a problem. You can also look into buying a butt plug with a T-bar base if you plan to wear your plug for an extended period. These bases nestle nicely between your butt cheeks so there’s less irritation of your butt cheeks.

So how long can you actually wear one without irritation? Many people will say you can wear it all day with no issues. These people are usually much more experienced and might have been wearing butt plugs for several years. They also usually carry extra lubrication with them and will regularly remove the plug and reapply their lube throughout the day. It definitely wouldn’t be something I’d recommend for an inexperienced user.

Many sources will tell you that it’s only safe to wear a butt plug for two to three hours. If you’re just starting out with butt plugs, even this will probably be a bit too long. It’s a useful guideline though if you have any worries about causing damage to your body.

Ultimately you should just listen to your body. If you’ve been wearing your plug for too long it will find a way of telling you. Whether it’s discomfort, chafing or pain, you should take note of these signs and remove the plug for a break.

What is a Tail Butt Plug?

With all that in mind, we can safely move onto tail butt plugs. These are very similar to regular butt plugs, but with one key difference. They have a tail attached to the base. Just like regular butt plugs, tail plugs can come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The tails also come in various lengths and designs matching many different animals or even fantasy creatures. Some styles you can choose from include:

  • Pony Tails
  • Fox Tails
  • Cat Tails
  • Dog Tails
  • Bunny Tails
  • Raccoon Tails
  • Devil Tails
  • Wolf Tails

Which you choose will usually depend on the scenarios which you plan to use it in.

Why Do People Use Tail Butt Plugs?

Just like the tails on offer with butt plugs, the reasons people use them are wild and wonderful. Your own personal reasons might match one or more of the following, or even be a completely different reason. As long as you are having fun and enjoying yourself while you wear your tail, it doesn’t matter!

One of the biggest reasons people choose a tail plug over a regular plug is to enjoy different types of roleplay. These roleplaying scenarios can vary massively, from simply wondering what it would be like to have a tail to fully embracing the behaviour of the animal and acting the part. Roleplaying scenarios don’t need to be sexual, although they often are. It is rare for someone to be playing the part of an animal during sex though, and most often people will be anthropomorphised versions such as a cat-girl.

The more dedicated role players might stray into something known as pet play. This is a relationship which often falls under BDSM, in which the person chooses to fully embrace life as their chosen animal and have an owner who looks after them. In these situations, the pet relinquishes some or all of their human rights and act out their pet persona as fully and authentically as they can. These relationships don’t always involve sex, but whatever the desires of both partners they will usually discuss them before any roleplay begins. This kind of roleplay often has a safe word so that either person can stop it at any time they feel uncomfortable.

Some people aren’t really interested in roleplaying though. They might choose to use their tail plug for simply to complete a fancy-dress outfit. Some people even find more unusual uses for their tail plugs.

Real Fur or Fake Fur?

The biggest consideration you’ll need to make when choosing a tail butt plug is what type of tail you’re going to get. For things like devil or dog tails, they’ll often be made of the same material as your plug. Furry tails though will give the option of real fur or fake fur. Most stores will list which kind of fur their plug comes with but if you aren’t sure, feel free to contact them and they should be able to tell you.

In general, there’s no real benefit to one kind of fur over the other, it’s largely down to preference just like with clothing. The only time that different furs will make a difference is when you need to wash the tails. Real fur will need a lot more care and you’ll need to be gentle while cleaning and brushing them.

That covers most of the basics of butt plugs with tails. If you need more information on specific parts of using or owning tail butt plugs, check out our other guides. Otherwise head on over to the store and start choosing your first tail plug today!
